1 - UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE.
Every day we see the world from eye level and at about 50mm distance. Don’t be afraid to get dirty and get on the ground or climb up to a high vantage point.
2 - CREATIVE COMPOSITION.
The easiest way to improve your pictures is to look for something to shoot through. Pick up a leaf off the ground and poke a hole in it and shoot through that. Or take it to the next level and use whatever your shooting through to bring context to your subject like I did here.
3 - UNDERSTANDING LIGHT.
Light creates the mood for your picture and even the most beautiful models or stunning landscapes look boring in bad light. The flip side is also true; the most boring setting can come to life when you find beautiful light. The most dramatic light happens two times a day, the first and last hours of the day.
4 - REFLECTIONS.
Look for reflections in every day life to liven up your pictures. Reflections are everywhere in puddles, mirrors, LCD screens, etc.
5 - EVOKE EMOTIONS.
This is one of the more difficult ones to master but the images that stay in peoples minds are the ones that evoke an emotion. Don’t be confused and think it has to be a sad picture, pictures can also make you happy or make you laugh or even just make you curious or nostalgic.
6 - DON'T FAKE IT.
Life happens beautifully on its own, instead of setting up your shots just wait and observe and be ready. When you set things up you are creating a shot that’s been done a million times, when you let life happen is when you get something truly special.
7 - FORGET ALL THE RULES.
Break those rules and you will become your own photographer with your own style. When you follow all the rules all the time you will be just like every other photographer that follows the rules.
8 - PUT DOWN YOUR CAMERA PHONE AND USE A DEDICATED CAMERA.
I’m not saying to never use your camera phone but in order to capture a great moment you need to be in the moment and a phone is filled with distractions.
9 - THINK BEFORE YOU SHOOT.
Slow down and put some thought in it before you take a picture. You should be thinking about where do you want to be, what lens or focal length are you using and why.
10 - TELL US STORY.
Use the 9 to tips above to tell a story with your images. The difference between good and great images is a great image tells a story.
